Born and raised in Christchurch, Matt attended Burnside High School. He performed in the improvisation comedyÌýScared Scriptless.
Matt started as a teenager presenting kid's television showÌýSquirt, before moving on toÌýStudio 2 Live. He recently returned to New Zealand after 6 years in Sydney where he was a Senior Producer for the Australian Broadcasting Company. Before leaving for Sydney in 2015, he hosted the travel segments on TVNZ's weekly lifestyle showÌýKiwi Living. He was a regular host on TV1'sÌýGood MorningÌýand has also had co-hosting duties on TV1's Breakfast and Seven Sharp. In late 2010, he helped launch Television New Zealand's first interactive music television channel, TVNZ U.
In 2023, Matt has fronted TVNZ 1'sÌýCountry House Hunters NZÌýand regularly appears on TVNZ 1'sÌýBreakfast.
