National is hoping a private member's bill cracking down on gangs gets the Government's backing.
The party's police spokesperson Brett Hudson has had his Firearms Prohibition Orders Bill drawn from the ballot.
Two men were shot dead at Omanawa near Tauranga on Tuesday night.
It comes at a time of growing concern over gang tensions in the city.
Hudson told Mike Hosking his Bill would tackle that problem.
"The fact that someone may be subject to the prohibition order changes the threshold for police to be able to use search and seizure powers."
