United States President Donald Trump today said he would designate 鈥淎ntifa鈥 - a shorthand term for 鈥渁nti-fascist鈥 used to describe diffuse far-left groups - as 鈥渁 major terrorist organisation鈥, a move he has threatened since his first term.
鈥淚 will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices,鈥 Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He called Antifa 鈥淎 SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER鈥.
Trump on Tuesday threatened to go through with such a designation after senior White House official Stephen Miller vowed the Administration would dismantle an alleged 鈥渧ast domestic terror movement鈥 that he linked to the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
Trump since his first term has ascribed blame to Antifa for various actions he dislikes, from violence against police to conducting the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
While federal law enforcement includes combating domestic terrorism under its purview, the US does not have a list of designated 鈥渄omestic terrorist organisations鈥.
