An International Relations expert says New Zealand's stance on Israeli settlements in Palestine is unlikely to change anything.
The Security Council has passed a New Zealand-led resolution demanding a stop to Israel building settlements on Palestinian territory.
In response the Israel government has withdrawn its ambassador to New Zealand.
Associate Professor of International Relations Stephen Hoadley says it's an awkward situation for New Zealand, that's unlikely to make a difference.
"This issue has been going on for 35, 40 years, it's not likely to be resolved by a New Zealand resolution in the security council," he said.
He said the ambassador will likely be returned to New Zealand soon.
Hoadley said other business between the countries such as trade and cultural exchange means the governments will quickly agree to disagree.
He said the ambassador will only be in home for a short period.
"[She will] probably have consultations back in Jerusalem and then be returned to her post."
