Jeffrey Epstein denied he was the 鈥渄evil鈥 and insisted he was only the lowest level of sexual predator in a video interview included in the latest release of files by United States authorities.
The interview, which lasts around two hours, was conducted by US President Donald Trump鈥檚 former adviser Steve Bannon. It appears to be filmed in the deceased financier鈥檚 New York home on an unknown date.
Documents concerning Epstein and government investigations into him have been released in troves, highlighting his connections to political and business leaders worldwide.
鈥淒o you think you鈥檙e the devil himself?鈥 Bannon asks Epstein, a convicted sex offender who died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking of underage girls.
鈥淣o, but I do have a good mirror,鈥 Epstein says smiling, wearing a black shirt and glasses.
When questioned again, he adds, 鈥淚 don鈥檛 know. Why would you say that?鈥
Epstein, who pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting prostitution from an underage girl, also appears to downplay the seriousness of his conviction.
He opposes Bannon labelling him a 鈥渃lass three sexual predator鈥 鈥 which indicates a most serious threat to public safety, according to a classification used in the US.
鈥淣o, I鈥檓 the lowest,鈥 says Epstein.
鈥淏ut a criminal,鈥 Bannon adds, to which Epstein responds: 鈥淵es鈥.
It followed Bannon asking Epstein if he considered his money 鈥渄irty鈥 as he 鈥渆arned it advising the worst people in the world鈥.
Epstein insists he made his money legally but acknowledges that 鈥渆thics is always a complicated subject鈥.
He argues that he gave cash to help eradicate polio in Pakistan and India in a bid to justify how he earned his money.
Documents show that Bannon had regular correspondence with Epstein, who offered to help the far-right US political figure spread his conservative ideology in Europe.
Millions of pages on Epstein, with photos and videos, have been published by US authorities since Trump took office in January 2025.
They have shed light on Epstein鈥檚 ties to top business executives such as Microsoft鈥檚 Bill Gates, celebrities such as film-maker Woody Allen, and academics and politicians including Trump and former President Bill Clinton.
