A teenager has a serious head injury after being thrown from a quad bike at the top of the South Island.
The 17 year old was riding with friends at Mangarakau, west of Collingwood, when he lost control and was thrown several metres over rocks on the shoreline.
He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital.
