Gallagher Chiefs captain Luke Jacobson will stay with the club for another two years, the Chiefs and New Zealand Rugby announced this week.
Since making his debut in 2018, Jacobson, originally from Cambridge, has made 89 appearances for the club.
His performances saw him debut for the All Blacks in 2019, earning 23 appearances in the black jersey.
Now in his second year as captain following the departure of former skipper Sam Cane, Jacobson guided the Chiefs through back-to-back finals campaigns.
Jacobson said he was excited about the Chiefs鈥 future.
鈥淚鈥檓 excited about where this team has gotten to and I鈥檓 hungry to turn that into some championship success.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not just the results that keep you around 鈥 it鈥檚 the environment and the team culture. Between the coaches, management and the players, there鈥檚 a good group of people here and they make it pretty hard to leave.鈥
Jacobson said he has been able to improve his game and leadership with the team.
鈥淚 grew up supporting this team and after playing with them for eight years, it鈥檚 a team that continues to really align with my values.鈥
In terms of goals, Jacobson said he would love to clock up 100 games for the Chiefs.
Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillan said Jacobson鈥檚 leadership had been key in shaping the character of the team.
鈥淗e leads with integrity, humility and total commitment to the jersey, and that鈥檚 respected by everyone. His decision to re-sign speaks volumes about the culture we鈥檝e built and the direction we鈥檙e heading.鈥
