The rural community is upset NZ Post has increased delivery charges without consultation.
The rural delivery fee of聽$3.70 - which already applies to tracked and courier parcels - will now be slapped on untracked post packages.
Rural Women National President, Fiona Gower, says many people rely on the service to regularly deliver things from town.
"I think they need to actually consult and see what is needed out there rather than just say 'this is what we're going to do'."
It has prompted calls for clarity from NZ Post around the new rural delivery charges.
Gower聽believes people will be double-charged if they're delivering from one rural address to another.
"It does add to the cost and it's just another one that they have to absorb, and maybe that makes parcels not worthwhile sending."
Meanwhile, New Zealand Federation of Women's Institutes Executive Officer Colleen Dryden says her organisation also faces extra charges for the reading material it sends to its members.
"Many don't have email and some are still on dial-up, so we are reliant on postage or couriering articles to them."
