Many unemployed teens who do not study will not be eligible from mid-2027, as the Government says these people should be supported by their parents or guardians, not the taxpayer.
18 and 19 year olds who can't rely on parental support will be eligible for money, with narrow exceptions.
The BestStart tax credit will be means-tested from April 2026, with payments starting to decline above a family income of $79,000 a year, and cut all-together for incomes above $97,000 dollars.
