The top half of the North Island is in the firing line for possible heavy rain this weekend.
MetService meteorologist Mmathapelo Makgabutlane told the Herald sunny conditions would continue for the top half of the North Island tomorrow.
鈥淚t feels really interesting in the middle of winter,鈥 Makgabutlane said.
鈥淭omorrow is looking like a nice, sunny day for the bulk of the area, but maybe a bit frosty to start off with in some areas.鈥
However, she said, a few showers could make their way across Northland, the Coromandel region and parts of the Bay of Plenty in the afternoon.
鈥淭he daytime temperatures could be in the mid-teens for most places but the early morning temperatures could be a little bit frosty for some areas.鈥
Makgabutlane said the top half of the North Island was looking wetter this weekend, with showers forecasted for most areas.
鈥淣orthland, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Coromandel and even in ... Waikato should expect some showers.鈥
Makgabutlane said Western Bay of Plenty and Coromandel were forecast to be in the firing line of most of the rain.
鈥淭here is a weather system that sits up and we鈥檙e expecting more showers, but there is a small chance of heavy rain,鈥 she said.
Makgabutlane said weekend temperatures were forecast to remain the same as during the week, 鈥渋n the mid-teens during the day and [with] early morning frosts predicted鈥.
According to MetService, clear and sunny skies are forecast for the South Island.
鈥淢ost of the weather is over the top half of the North Island this weekend,鈥 Makgabutlane said.
鈥淲ith those clear skies, early morning temperatures will be really chilly.鈥
