The family of the young man who died during an incident on the night of his 21st birthday celebrations said his body has been laid to rest, but their grief continues to weigh heavily.

Tyreece Te Pairi, 20, died in hospital early on Sunday, July 20, with police investigating his death as a homicide after an incident in central Hamilton.

Police have since arrested and charged an 18-year-old.

Police investigating the 20-year-old鈥檚 death issued a statement on behalf of his family.

鈥淲e have now laid our boy, Tyreece Te Pairi, to rest in his t奴rangawaewae, Tolaga Bay.

鈥淭hough his body rests, our grief does not. The ache of his absence is something words cannot carry.鈥

His family said he was deeply loved, and the pain of losing him is just as deep.

鈥淗is future held so much promise 鈥 he was taken from us far too soon. His passing has left a profound impact on his partner, wh膩nau and all those who knew him.

鈥淭o everyone who stood beside us, sent messages, brought kai, travelled to be with us, or held us in prayer 鈥 we are deeply grateful.

鈥淲hether you spoke words of comfort, sat with us in silence, or simply kept Tyreece in your thoughts, we felt your presence.

鈥淲e will never forget the kindness shown to our wh膩nau during this time,鈥 the statement said.

鈥淲e are working closely with the New Zealand Police and are grateful for their ongoing mahi and support.

鈥淚f you have any information, no matter how minor it may seem, come forward without delay,鈥 the family statement read.

The public鈥檚 co-operation was vital for justice for Tyreece, they said.
