
A large number of gang members and associates are expected in Waipawa and Flaxmere today as two gang tangi take place across the region.
Hawke鈥檚 Bay Area Commander Inspector Lincoln Sycamore says there are additional patrols placed on the roads and in communities over the coming days.
鈥淲e expect to see a large number of gang members and associates moving around the region, and police will have additional resources available to manage any issues that may arise,鈥 Sycamore says.
鈥淲e are mindful of providing space for wh膩nau and friends to grieve peacefully while balancing the safety of the community.鈥
Sycamore said police have communicated expectations to gang leaders and will take enforcement action where necessary.
鈥淭his includes around the wearing or displaying of gang insignia in a public place, as well as any threatening or intimidating behaviour.鈥
Police are urging anyone who witnesses illegal behaviour to call 111 immediately. For matters after the fact, people can make a report online or call 105.
