Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced she is pregnant with a baby due in June. Ardern shared the delightful news on social media saying that she was really excited about the pregnancy. "And we thought 2017 was a big year! Clarke and I are really excited that in June our team will expand from two to three," she wrote on Instagram. The post was also shared on her Twitter and Facebook accounts.
We thought 2017 was a big year! This year we'll join the many parents who wear two hats. I'll be PM & a mum while Clarke will be "first man of fishing" & stay at home dad. There will be lots of questions (I can assure you we have a plan all ready to go!) but for now bring on 2018

New Zealanders took to the social network to react to the news and congratulate the couple.
oh my god it is *exactly* three months since Winston Peters announced Jacinda Ardern would be prime minister.

Stoked that our PM is going to be a mum. This is 2018 and women need to be able to work and be mums and be supported in this.

Heck yes!! Remember when everyone (well, most my circle) was like "hell, it'd be amazing if Jacinda did become pregnant while PM and everything went JUST FINE"

Proud to live in a country where the Prime Minister can reconcile starting a family with being in charge. Congrats on the impending arrival - proud of what you stand for

Jacinda Ardern's body and choices are her own, but I want to say that I am the most proud I have ever been to live in a country with what must be the world's first pregnant prime minister/leader. So fantastic.

Shout out to Jacinda's doctor who's been sitting on this exciting secret for three months!
