Police have charged a 45 year old man with murder over the death of a 3-year-old girl in Kaikohe.
Police were called to an address on Tawanui Rd on Wednesday night, where they found the girl unresponsive.
Despite medical treatment, she died at the scene.
The man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Monday May 26.
Police have said they will continue their inquiries in the area over the next few days.
Victim Support is providing support to the girl鈥檚 family and the local community.
Because the case is before the courts, the police are unable to comment further.
