A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Christchurch last night.
Emergency services were called to Lamorna Rd, Parklands, about 7.50 pm after reports that one person had sustained critical injuries.
The woman was unresponsive when emergency services arrived and died at the scene.
A man was taken into police custody a short time later and charged with murder.
鈥淧olice are working to support the victim鈥檚 family, and at this early stage, we will not be releasing further details regarding the victim,鈥 Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Simmons said.
鈥淲e also know that this will have been an incredibly distressing incident for Lamorna Road residents and the wider Parklands community,
鈥淧olice will have a continued presence in Lamorna Road today, as we complete a scene examination and undertake further enquiries.鈥
Simmons wanted to reassure residents there was no risk to the wider community.
The man is scheduled to appear in Christchurch District Court this morning.
