Two Hastings-based firefighters have taken their kit off for a good cause, with the wife of one commending her hunky husband for 鈥渄oing it for the women of New Zealand鈥.
Dan Nesbit and Dominic Coe joined 10 other smouldering firefighters from around the country for the 2026 Kiwi Firefighters Calendar.
It raises funds for the Whanaungatanga Programme鈥 supporting firefighters鈥 wellbeing and Movember New Zealand鈥檚 initiative for men鈥檚 mental health and men鈥檚 cancer.
This is the third time Nesbit has featured in the steamy calendar. He said he keeps coming back for the cause and the challenge.
鈥淭he fact that whatever you鈥檙e doing is supporting a great cause, that not only looks after me and Dom, but anyone in New Zealand is great,鈥 he said.
Despite appearing in the popular calendar several times, Nesbit is yet to be recognised on the street for his modelling work, but his wife is very supportive of what he does.
鈥淗er quote is, 鈥楪ood on you for doing it for the women of New Zealand鈥.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 know what to take from that, but yeah.鈥
The 2026 calendar is Coe鈥檚 debut, and he said it was an opportunity he couldn鈥檛 turn down.
鈥淚鈥檝e always been big on maintaining my own health and physical fitness and the importance that has in aiding my mental health,鈥 he said.
鈥淏eing in our role, we do see a lot of suicide and I guess that area of life, it shows just the importance of raising awareness for mental health, talking about mental health and the factor that physical health has to play in mental health.鈥

Coe鈥檚 partner has also been very supportive of him getting his gear off for charity.
鈥淪he鈥檚 been great just throughout the journey.
鈥淥bviously, it鈥檚 not a lot of fun for her when we鈥檙e dieting so hard and getting into the gym twice a day, but it鈥檚 for a good cause and I think she鈥檇 rather me than her.鈥
The Kiwi Firefighters Calendar was established by former professional firefighter Bevin James, who started it after witnessing many men鈥檚 preventable deaths.
鈥淲e see a lot of suicide victims in the incidents we attend as firefighters, and one of our Auckland-based firefighters took his own life,鈥 James said.
鈥淟osing a colleague to suicide was a huge shock. We had no idea he was struggling. It was a terrible time, especially seeing the impact on his wh膩nau.鈥
James himself has battled depression.
鈥淚 knew I needed to reach out for support, but doing that was hard; I鈥檓 not naturally a 鈥榯alk it out鈥 guy.
鈥淲hen I did though, the support from family and friends really made a difference. It made me feel like I mattered.鈥
The 12 professional firefighters featured in this year鈥檚 Kiwi Firefighters Calendar trained hard for the cause, with James stepping in on three weeks鈥 notice when another firefighter had to pull out.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a big ask to bare not just your body, but a piece of your story,鈥 James said.
鈥淏ut the guys, knowing where the proceeds from the calendar go, worked really hard to get in shape.鈥
