A dramatic video shows a ute rocketing from an off-ramp on to State Highway 1 in Wellington, clipping another car travelling north.
The dash cam video shows an orange ute on the wrong side of the road go into the northbound lanes of the highway where it meets Tyres Rd in Ngauranga.
The ute then collides with a white car, spinning it around 180 degrees.
Wellington resident Luke Drabble told the Herald he thought the ute was driving down from National Storage and the white car was driving up from the city.
鈥淸I] believe the orange [ute] sped around the bend... saw the car ahead of it on the off-ramp and swerved to avoid them.鈥
This led to the ute crashing into the white vehicle before a 鈥渉uge dump truck鈥 rear-ended the orange ute.
Drabble said the ute driver was concussed but seemed physically unharmed.
鈥淎ll other people weren鈥檛 harmed.鈥
The crash caused significant traffic delays on SH1 Ngauranga, with NZTA Waka Kotahi reporting northbound queues backed up to the Terrace Tunnel.
The delays have since cleared.
A police spokesperson said officers were called to a crash on the northbound carriageway of SH1, Ngauranga, about 5pm.
鈥淔ire and Emergency NZ and Wellington Free Ambulance were also in attendance. Four vehicles had crashed and were blocking the right-hand side lane.
鈥淭here were no reported injuries. The road is now clear.鈥
