
Three schools in Nelson are in lockdown while armed police respond to an incident nearby.
Nayland College, Nayland Primary School and Broadgreen Intermediate were locked down just after 2pm.
Nayland College principal Daniel Wilson told the Press a threat was made to the school and its students.
Parents are being told to not go to the schools and children are safe.
Police told the Herald they had closed Nayland Rd.
鈥淐ordons are in place at Songer St and Whakat奴 Drive. Some nearby schools have been placed into lockdown as a precaution,鈥 a police spokesman said.

鈥淭here is not believed to be any threat to public safety at this time.鈥
However, he said people should avoid the area.
Witnesses outside the schools have claimed police officers were armed.
