Liev Schreiber has been hospitalised in New York after a health scare.

The 58-year-old actor was admitted to a hospital in the Big Apple on Sunday (local time) after reportedly suffering a headache. He is believed to have stayed overnight before being released the following day and has been cleared to return to work.

A spokesperson told People: 鈥淥ut of an abundance of caution, Liev went into the hospital for testing and as of this afternoon, he has been cleared to return to work.鈥

Schreiber has suffered from debilitating headaches in the past and previously revealed he feared he was having a stroke when a migraine led to memory problems while he was performing in a Broadway production of Doubt: A Parable.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in April 2024, the actor explained: 鈥淚 was in my dressing room and I had a terrible headache.

鈥淚 thought it was maybe a fast food headache, but it felt a little stronger than that. I鈥檓 walking down the stairs and I鈥檓 thinking: 鈥楾his is not normal. I don鈥檛 feel okay鈥.鈥

Schreiber said he became even more worried when he forgot his co-star鈥檚 name and then couldn鈥檛 remember any of his lines onstage.

He said: 鈥淚t all vanishes. The play is gone from my head ... I know I鈥檓 in a play but I don鈥檛 know what play I鈥檓 in ...

鈥淢y doctor, who鈥檚 a friend, shows up and he had a terrified expression. My wife shows up, she looks terrified. I think: 鈥極kay, I鈥檝e had a stroke. This is it鈥.鈥

Schreiber underwent an MRI scan and was diagnosed with transient global amnesia (TGA), which can cause sudden bouts of memory loss and confusion.

鈥淭he guy said: 鈥榊ou鈥檒l never have this again and it鈥檒l be gone in 8 to 24 hours鈥, which I didn鈥檛 believe. You know, as a typical sort of Jewish hypochondriac person, I鈥檓 convinced that I had a stroke and they just didn鈥檛 find it.

[However] I go to sleep, I wake up, I remember the whole play. I never had another problem with it. I was embarrassed and thought everyone would think I was lying and taking a night off from the theatre鈥.
