Search teams are heading back up Canterbury's Mt Somers in a second attempt to reach three stranded hikers.
The trio set off their personal locator beacon around 11 last night from Pinnacle Hut.
Search and Rescue were unable to reach them because of bad weather.
A second party will be sent in this morning, with helicopters assisting the rescue.
