Police have arrested two men and seized three vehicles after they were caught doing burnouts while attending a funeral at West Auckland鈥檚 Waikumete cemetery.

Police said several driving complaints were made by the public just after 2pm yesterday.

鈥淎 person attending funeral proceedings at Waikumete began to do burnouts in front of the crematorium,鈥 said Waitemat膩 West Area Commander Inspector Simon Walker.

鈥淭he first police unit on scene was surrounded by some attendees, including some choosing to jump on the vehicle.鈥

Police said no one was injured.

鈥淚t鈥檚 quite disappointing that this small group of people have chosen to behave like this,鈥 Walker said.

鈥淭hey frankly have no respect for others or the cemetery, which is a place reserved for remembrance.

鈥淒oing burnouts is not a sign of respect and we will continue to hold offenders to account.鈥

Police seized two cars and a motorbike and more police, including the Eagle Helicopter, attended the cemetery shortly after.

A 52-year-old man was arrested and charged with failing to stop and will appear in the Wait膩kere District Court at a later date.

A 22-year-old man who handed himself in to police had his vehicle impounded and was charged with sustained loss of traction.

Police said they are continuing to make inquiries into who the third driver was.

鈥淭here is no place for this senseless behaviour in our community,鈥 said Walker, 鈥渁nd we will be looking to lay charges against all those involved.鈥
