The busy holiday route out of Auckland is bumper to bumper this lunchtime.
Police are asking drivers heading north on State Highway One to be cautious - and delay their trip if they can.
The traffic is especially heavy on the toll road up to Puhoi, and it's pretty solid through Warkworth too.
Information from the Transport Agency suggests the main routes out of Wellington are moving OK.
