An outfit worn by Christopher Luxon has earned the attention of Canadian fashion writer and content creator Derek Guy, famous on X as 鈥渢he menswear guy鈥.

Guy took to his influential @dieworkwear account to question the layering choices of the Prime Minister, pointing out that he appeared to be wearing a T-shirt over his suit jacket and shirt.

Luxon posted the photo on his own account, taken at the National Lamb Day barbecue, which was hosted on the Speaker鈥檚 Lawn on Parliament grounds.

Guy鈥檚 followers were quick to weigh in on the style move.

One called it 鈥渙ne of the weirdest things I鈥檝e seen鈥.

Others highlighted the outfit鈥檚 similarities to everything from Joey Tribbiani wearing all of Chandler Bing鈥檚 clothes on Friends to Yohji Yamamoto鈥檚 fall 2016 menswear collection.

Many suggested the T-shirt was a smart, strategic choice, 鈥済uarding his clothes from the sauce鈥.

Some social media users took the chance to call Guy鈥檚 attention to other prime ministerial outfits they considered fashion faux pas, including an outfit where Luxon paired a tuxedo jacket, shirt and bow tie with shorts and pool slides.

Guy regularly criticises the style choices of politicians, particularly suit fit. He鈥檚 weighed in on everyone from Anthony Albanese and John Howard to Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer.

鈥淢ale politicians who need the most help with their wardrobe,鈥 he told Politico. 鈥淐lothing missteps can cause unnecessary headlines.鈥

The T-shirt-over-suit appearance is not the first time a politician鈥檚 sausage sizzle appearance has gone viral online. A photo of John Key eating a hot dog on a stick at a 2008 A&P show has since become a popular meme online.
